Hi Guys

We are using Xeams to filter all our emails before they hit our Exchange server, only in the event our exchange server is down Xeams will hold the emails until its back online to pass them through,

We have just seen on our exchange server's SMTP logs that the Xeams server is requesting SMTP every 60seconds or so and is failing to authenticate,

We are wondering why this server would be trying to authenticate to our SMTP server when all it is doing is holding and passing the emails through

Are you using the SMTP Proxy server or the Regular SMTP server in Xeams? I ask because if you use the Proxy Server, anyone on the Internet trying to Authenticate will actually connect to your Exchange through Xeams.

I recommend switching from SMTP Proxy to regular SMTP Server for inbound emails. Once this is done, your Exchange will completely get disconnected from the Internet and you should not see any attempt to authenticate on your Exchange.

Check http://www.xeams.com/DifferenceSmtpAndSmtpProxy.htm for details about differences between the two servers.
