Hi Techs/Devs, James here.

A client site with under 4 users (who is growing) mistakenly forgot to add an association and just prior to that created a new user in AD with two email alias's taking the count to above 5.

I know the software looks at 5 days worth of email but surly there must be an override for this as they have now been downgraded from enterprise to community.

Surly you can arrange some sort of override switch that can be used once a month or something for situations like this or at the very least Xeams needs to have the LDAP lookup timer either reduced OR needs to be modified so that any email coming in on a new email addresses initiates an AD lookup to immediately update the association list.

These mistakes are so easy to make and taking the small clients out of enterprise mode because of a minor mistake for 5 days really is unnecessary.

Will they automatically be upgraded back to Enterprise once Xeams works this all out or is there something we have to do or for that matter something we can do to express the solution?

Thanks, James

James,

No such switch exist in the current version. I can add this as a feature request.

But the question still stands, will they automatically be upgraded back up to use all Enterprise features once the software sees the user count drop back down to 3 users?

Thanks, James

Can you explain the procedure of this Enterprise to Community downgrade. It seems more confusing then ever now.

Let's say for example a hobbyist runs the community version and creates over 5 accounts (Firewall mode). I assume the software notices this and downgrades them to disable junk filtering.

If the user then deletes the 6th user and the count drops to 5 again, what happens?

Does;

a) the junk filtering re-activates itself after a few days of returning the user count to 5 or below

b) nothing happens and the hobbyist is left with no junk mail filtering permanently

c) some other user interaction required for e.g. (restart, new install, etc.)

Thanks, James.

James,

First a comment: I see you mentioned "Firewall mode". The mode has nothing to do with user license.

Once Xeams determines more than 5 users it will automatically disable "Filtering" under Filter Management/Score Configuration. If the user count goes below 6, check the box again to enable filtering.

Answering your specific questions:

a) Enable filtering under Filter Management/Score Configuration. That should stick now as long as the user count is 5 or below.

b) No. This is not a permanent config

c) No restart is required

Thanks for getting back to me.

But how do we know if Junk mail filtering has been disabled in the first place for us to check? Do we get some sort of notification?

For that matter, let's say it does get disabled and the user count issue is rectified immediately - do we have to wait 5 days before we can enable the junk mail filtering switch again?

Is there an actual page which describes this all in detail and how it works..? The site here doesn't explain it very well: http://xeams.com/XeamsCost.htm

Thanks guys.

James,

There is no notification when using the Community Edition. It will switch off filtering and every email will get a score of 0.

Xeams looks at past 5 days of data to determine the number of users. Therefore, you will have to wait for 5 days before it will starting filtering again. This logic is a bit different in Enterprise Edition. It gives the users a 15 day grace period if the count goes up.
