Why is Xeams free?
Good question! And it deserves an equally good answer.
Xeams is the culmination of years of work, which was initially started by just one engineer in Synametrics. The initial goal of this software was to filter emails that were being generated by some of our internal systems. As the threat of spam grew over the years, this project took a new turn and eventually evolved into Xeams.
Unfortunately, we were late in bringing it to the market. This resulted in a barrage of competition from other companies offering spam filtering solution. This left us with two choices:
- Invest heavily in marketing and pass the cost to the end-users.
- Instead of paying advertising companies, pass on the savings to the end-users and rely on their ability to spread the word
What's the catch?
We believe that if email is important for your company you will purchase our support contract, which is not free. We believe in the term "Time is money". Therefore, by purchasing a support contract your network administrator will get tasks done at a much faster pace than the time they would otherwise spend on figuring it out the problem on their own.How can we survive without charging?
If you are paying thousands of dollars on a spam-filtering/email solution, we believe 90% of that revenue is being spent on marketing. Therefore, if only 10% percent of our users pay for support we will generate enough revenue to stay in business. This model of revenue generation is not new. Many companies, particularly those providing solution related to Linux operating system have adopted this strategy and are successful. It has worked for us as well.
