Is it possible to configure the filter for restricting email communication with all external domains? For Example: Lets say the domain hosted on the server is 'hosteddomain.com'. Then a user1@hosteddomain.com will be able to SEND and RECEIVE email to user2, user3...etc@hosteddomain.com only and not to anyuser@anyotherexternal_domain.tld

How can you achieve this?

Atul,

There is no built-in mechanism to do that but there are a couple of work-arounds:

  • Disable SMTP Auth on port 25 (primary SMTP Port) and do not allow any IP address to relay. If a local user tries sending an email out, they will get a "Relaying Denied" message. You can disable SMTP Auth by going into Server Configuration/SMTP Configuration and unchecking Allow SMTP Authentication.
  • Block out-bound port 25 from your network firewall

Or you can just disable the internet connection on that server.

James,

Disabling Internet access on the machine could have some negative affects. For example, Xeams goes out on the Internet when:

  • It needs to pulls a new filtering rule. It checks for new rules every 2 hours.
  • Checks for new version updates
  • It needs to pulls a list of IP addresses belonging to Office 365 from Microsoft's site
  • Blacklisted URLs

Therefore, blocking the entire Internet access is only recommended if you are not getting any emails from the Internet and are using Xeams strictly inside your LAN. If all you want is to restrict in-house users from sending outbound emails to the Internet, blocking port 25 is a better option.

Hello - thanks for getting back.

From what I understand, that is exactly what the user is trying to establish. Only local mail which would not require any of the above (if anything it would be safer).

In any case if;
Even if it did require Internet Access, wouldn't it be possible for you just to supply us with the list of IP's that was required for Xeams to operate in its update ring?
One could then simply apply IP FW rules.

James
