Is there a way Xeams can keep a copy of deleted email?

Scenario:

User deletes an email from their IMAP Outlook.

Xeams keeps it in the repository, but it is hidden from Outlook. This email is still searchable via Xeams.

John,

Emails are stored in two locations:

  • Global Repository - this is what you see when you log in as admin
  • User Repository - this exists when Xeams is either used in Hybrid or Stand alone mode. IMAP/POP3 repositories are fetched from here. When you delete emails they are removed from here.

Therefore, you should be able to restore email from the Global Repository. Log in as 'admin', go to Message Repository, search for the desired message using the sender's email address. Once found, restore it.

Thanks, I found my deleted test message.

Is there any indication that a message in the Global Repository was deleted from the User Repository? Is it possible to search for only deleted messages?

Global and User repositories work independently. Deleting a message from user's repository does not affect the global repository. There are two ways to delete messages from the global repository:

  • Number of retention days expire and Xeams will delete the messages
  • An administrator who has access to the disk removes the *.eml file from the disk

The only way to delete messages from User's repository is:

  • Through an IMAP or POP3 server
  • An administrator having access to the disk removes the user's account from $INSTALL_DIR\UserRepository folder
