I have Xeams setup as a spam firewall. I logged in to the admin console today, and suddenly the SMTP proxy server shows that it is not working. It was fine yesterday, and automatic updating is turned off. From what I can tell with my tests, I'm able to get mail from google, so we are able to get external emails, but I don't know why it is saying that it's not working. What could have changed to cause this?

Oh and I've already restarted the service, and all diagnostic tests check out fine.

When you say "Not working", does it mean it is not longer accepting emails or it's not filtering them. Check two things:

  • Go to Home and ensure the SMTP server (either proxy or regular) are in RUNNING state
  • Go to Filter Management/Score Configuration and ensure Filtering is enabled

Sorry for the confusion. The status for the SMTP Proxy Server says, "Not Running". It also says not running for the regular SMTP Server, but it's always said that because we've never needed to configure it. I've restarted the service, and the server that it is on. Both I and a couple of others in our organization have received mail from external addresses, and it shows up in when I do a search in the mail repository.

I checked and Filter Management/Score Configuration is enabled.

Also I've checked, re-checked and re-checked my re-check and nothing has changed on the SMTP server configuration. It is still configured the way it has been for years.

It's odd that everything seems to be working, however the status says "Not Running". I've even checked with different browsers to see if it might be something changed in the way they handle the page encoding, but the result is the same across the board.

Mike,

It is a bit difficult to troubleshoot this without further investigation. Could you please send us an email or call our support line. That's going to be much faster.

I would, but we don't have a paid support account. Thanks though.

We are not charging for support anymore. It will be free.

Thanks for the phone assistance. We had mentioned the log showing that the server was stopping and restarting a lot. I went back and read it again and it says that the SMTP proxy server is restarting because it hasn't received an email in 10 minutes. Over and over it says this. Is there a way to turn this option off? I don't know if it's related to the issue with the server status, but still it seems odd.
